Horton Kirby and South Darenth Parish Council
We are delighted that Alan White has joined the Parish council as the ninth Councillor. You may have already seen Alan around the villages as he is also our (very active) Sevenoaks District Councillor.
May is going to be a busy month starting with St. George's Day fete taking place at the Heathside from midday on Saturday 3rd May. This traditional fete has something for all the family to enjoy; free bouncy castle and slide for the children, stalls, BBQ, bar, ice cream and entertainment from Kate Barnes Theatre & Dance school and Ballbusters Flyball Club for the dogs. Fingers crossed for a sunny day!
Thursday 7th May is the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, which marked the end of the war in Europe and WW2 as a whole on this date. At 9.00am Horton Kirby Bowls club will raise the unique VE Day 80 flag supplied by the Parish Council. At 6.30pm St. Mary's bells will ring out, recreating the moment that 80 years before they rang out as the nation took to the street in celebrations of Victory in Europe Day.
In the evening, the Parish council will host an evening including songs from Paul Farleigh & Friends from the Dartford Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (DAODS). The British Legion will supply food and Beverages and the Howe & Co. Fish and Chip van will be parked up for those wanting to purchase traditional food that Prime Minister Churchill didn't ration during the whole of WWII. A small display of photographs and newspaper clippings from the time will be on display.
Monday 12th May is the date for our Annual Meeting of the Parish Council. All are welcome as usual and starts at 7.30pm in the Village hall.
Monthly Parish Council meetings are open to the public and the ‘minutes’ which record the business and decisions can be found on the Council’s website. You can also read them in the Parish Office.
